La Amapola Cottage is located 25kms inland between Malaga and Granada, nestling on the hillside between two tiny mountain hamlets, secluded yet within easy reach of several inviting bars and restaurants and all local amenities. The bustling market village of Periana is a ten-minute drive and the beach half an hour away. The white hilltop villages of the Axarquia, Granada and the Alhambra and the picturesque beaches of Nerja are just some of the nearby attractions.

The cottage has been tastefully renovated in traditional Andaluz style, with polished terracotta floors, exposed beams, handmade tiles and whitewashed walls. Moorish style terracotta roof tiles and shuttered wooden doors and windows. The private driveway leads to a large open terrace surrounded with mature trees and gardens, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, Lake Vinuela and the mediterranean. A long terracotta tiled terrace runs along the front of the house, partly shaded by a grapevine.

The open plan kitchen-diner/living room is very spacious with polished terracotta floors, exposed beams and whitewashed walls. In one corner are a pretty ceramic wood burning stove and a Moroccan sofa with masses of cushions for luxurious siestas. The kitchen is equipped with oven and hob, fridge freezer, toaster and kettle and plenty of storage space.

There are lots of books catering for all tastes and ages. Also TV and DVD, a large collection of films and a stereo with jazz, folk, soul and classical CDs, not to mention Spanish guitar and flamenco!

Both bedrooms are cosy and comfortable, with good sized beds and warm goose down duvets. There are wall mounted or portable radiators in every room.

The Cottage is the perfect winter retreat, cosy, comfortable and beautifully appointed and equipped. Winter in Andalucia is the ideal time to really get away from it all and enjoy peace, tranquility and unspoilt nature. The surrounding countryside is wonderful walking country and at this time of year its pleasant to explore the local towns and the white hilltop villages of the Axarquia.

The cottage is available for winter lets only.

La Amapola Cottage sleeps 4; plus baby and 1 additional child. 2 double bedrooms. Bedroom 1 with large double bed. Bedroom 2 can be fitted with double bed or with twin beds. Divan bed in living room. Cot on request.
